Office Information

The Center for Support and Intervention (CSI) is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. We are closed on University Holidays and during other university closures.

Here are a few ways to connect with us. Please note: if this is an emergency, please call 911 or contact UCPD at 510-642-3333.

  • If you are concerned about a student and want to make a referral to our office, please do so using the Care Report online form.
  • If you would like to consult with a Case Manager about a concern, please email us at csi@berkeley.edu or leave a voicemail at 510-664-4218.

James (he/him) is proudly Bay Area born and raised (Fremont, CA)! After earning his B.A. in Sociology and Asian American Studies from Pomona College, James taught middle school as a Fulbright Fellow in South Korea before getting his M.Ed. in Student Affairs from UCLA. James served as an Area Coordinator and Intercultural Program Coordinator at Wheaton College (MA) before returning to the Bay Area, and since joining UC Berkeley, James has worked in Residential Life, New Student Services, and the Center for Support and Intervention. James is experienced in Intergroup Dialogue and social justice education facilitation and program development, serves as a campus facilitator in the Multicultural Education Program, and is also a certified practitioner of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Outside the office, he serves fellow staff as a member of the leadership team of UC Berkeley’s Asian Pacific American Systemwide Alliance (APASA).

Hailey Lopez (she/hers) comes most recently from UC Santa Cruz where she served as a Coordinator for Residential Education and an Assistant Director for Residential Education. Hailey grew up in the High Desert of Southern California in Apple Valley, CA (no apples, just hot desert). She received her undergraduate degrees in English Literature and Liberal Studies from the University of Redlands and a graduate degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University. Hailey also worked at UC Merced in Residence Life.


Becca Gardner

Becca Gardner (she/her) earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at UC Davis with minors in human development and professional writing. There, she worked extensively to grow the collegiate recovery program, Aggies for Recovery. She serves as a team leader for The SAFE Campus Collegiate Recovery Leadership Academy. As a person in long-term recovery, Becca is thrilled to bring her lived experience to cultivate a thriving recovery community at Cal. In her free time, Becca likes to write, travel and drink coffee.

Eric Lavi (he/him/his) was born and raised in Sacramento, CA, but has called the Bay Area his home for the past twelve years. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at San Jose State University and then completed his Master’s in Higher Education and Student Affairs at the University of San Francisco. Eric has most recently served as a Senior Resident Director in Residential Life at UC Berkeley, and is a restorative justice facilitator and certified “Question, Persuade, Refer” (QPR) Suicide Prevention trainer. In his spare time, he likes to cook and learn new recipes – especially reclaiming and rediscovering the cuisines of his cultural backgrounds as a biracial Filipino/Israeli American. Additionally, he loves learning piano renditions of top radio hits, and is known to make a mean charcuterie board!

 

Russell Maan

Russell Maan (he/him/his) has lived in Colorado, Arizona, California, and Vermont and now considers the East Bay his home! He received a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology at California State University Fullerton and then completed his Master’s in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration at the University of Vermont. Russell worked in Housing in a role similar to a Resident Director at the UC Irvine and UC Santa Cruz. Prior to this position, Russell worked as a Case Manager for Slug Support. Outside of work, Russell enjoys playing RPG video games alongside his dog, Rajwinder, and finding new places to travel with his husband, Aneel. Russell likes to share he identifies as Biracial, Queer, and Neuroatypical.

Joanna Morales (she/her) is a UC Berkeley alumna with a bachelor’s degree in American Studies with a concentration in Visual Culture and Consumer Behavior, complemented by an Education minor. Her passion for educational access has been a driving force behind her professional career in both high school and university-level college advising. In her previous role, Joanna demonstrated her commitment to equity and inclusion by specializing in supporting students facing academic challenges, particularly those on academic probation and those seeking readmission after dismissal. Joanna enjoys morning runs, hiking, traveling, and binge-watching Pixar movies.

Emilie (she/her) graduated with her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. There she was a trained paraprofessional co-facilitating discussions with peers on preventing sexual assault on campus. At her most recent position, Emilie was the Education Coordinator for the VSC, the central Florida rape crisis center, where she developed and conducted violence prevention trainings for the community. She is so excited to continue preventing violence through education and promoting bystander intervention at UC Berkeley! In her free time she loves to knit, bake, run long-distance, play MTG, and travel. She’s also always looking for good hiking trails!

Katie Morrison-White (she/hers) grew up in northern San Diego county and is a proud UC Berkeley transfer alum, having received a bachelors in Rhetoric with a minor in Education. After a few years here and there, her Ed minor roots brought her back to working with students at UC Berkeley as an academic adviser in first the English Department and then the Media Studies program. She also was a member of the Berkeley Free Clinic for several years, volunteering as a Peer Counselor. She enjoys running, seeking out new flavors of oreos, and working hard to build a good life for her future dog. Relatedly, she is looking forward to the day she can update this bio and remove “future” from the last sentence.
